Country Research Report
"Lithuania" A major project in my international technical communication class involved creating some form of documentation for an international audience. First we had to select a country of interest, then we had to write a report discussing the cultural variables for the country as well as any other information that would be relevant to the project. I chose to learn more about Lithuania for a couple of reasons. My primary motivation was to gain a better understanding of my ancestry- the homeland of my great grandparents. Additionally, I wanted to choose something of which I knew very little. While it might seem more practical to research a country such as China or Japan, I wanted to gain more than just a superficial understanding of business customs. What I found surprised me. Not only is Lithuania and extremely diverse country steeped in tradition, it is also a center for technology and technical communication in Eastern Europe. The history of the people affected me so much that for the final project I designed a pamphlet highlighting some of the most important landmarks in the country. You can view the pamphlet and my process HERE. |

Team 5 Research Report
"Campus Crime and Prevention" The interesting part of this project is that it was the first time I worked with a group to research and write a paper. However, while we chose the topic and divided the assignment up as a group, we wrote separate sections and were evaluated individually. Unfortunately, the report is not very cohesive, and one can tell that several different people wrote it. I played several important roles in the production of this report. While each person was responsible for a specific topic (mine was harassment) and other sections, I put the entire report together in one document. The following is a list of the elements I completed:
If the circumstances had been different such as this being a report in a professional environment, I would have worked diligently to ensure that the report was consistent in content and tone as well as edited for other problems and issues. |

Group 5 Research Paper
"Virtual Collaboration: A Tool for All Trades" I completed a course that focused specifically on working as part of a virtual team. Our task was to research and write a report discussing the value of various technologies. I served in several roles during this assignment. My primary responsibility involved researching and writing a section on podcasting. Additionally, I worked as the layout manager wherein I was responsible for compiling all drafts, figures, tables, and references into one report and ensuring that the document met formatting guidelines. I also designed the cover page, page numbers, table of contents, lists of tables and figures, acknowledgements, and references. While compiling drafts, I assumed a secondary role and became the de facto editor for the group. I worked to eliminate second person pronouns and passive voice constructions (when feasible). I made corrections in mechanics, usage, and syntax. With the permission of team members, I added information to main report sections in order to make the content more consistent. I assisted some with finding figures and creating tables or citing their sources properly. Most importantly, I worked diligently with teammates to ensure the report read as if it had been written by one person with a consistent voice. |
