My academic and professional background is somewhat varied. It began in Erie, Pennsylvania where after graduating from McDowell High School I completed a year of studies at Penn State Behrend. However, circumstances forced a move to Central Florida, and it is there that I completed my undergraduate education at Seminole State College (SSC) and the University of Central Florida (UCF). I graduated from UCF with a B.S. in Secondary English Language Arts Education.
Shortly after graduating, I accepted a position at a local high school where I taught a variety of English classes including expository writing, creative writing, and literature. I left my teaching position in order to focus on my family. However, unforeseen circumstances required my return to the workforce, which is when I accepted a position as an English Instructional Support Specialist at SSC. The position provided me with a good transition from teaching into a more supportive role that included working with various groups. I worked at SSC for over 4 years, and I enjoyed providing academic support and editorial assistance to my clients. The position allowed me time to refine my strengths and skills, including completing a second degree, an English B.A. in Technical Communication. I am an articulate and passionate communicator with a love of the written word. Not only do I enjoy writing, but I also relish in the various aspects of editing and document design. It would be fair to say that proofreading is a guilty pleasure for me. I thrive off of working in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail, and I posses a steadfast work ethic, almost to a fault. I can be somewhat perfectionist in my own work, but I have learned to prioritize. I also enjoy working both autonomously and in team environments. I derive great satisfaction when I have accomplished a goal, helped a client, or exceeded expectations. As my professional life continues to evolve, so do my aspirations. In order to have access to better career opportunities I moved to Cary, North Carolina in August of this year. It is my sincere hope that I will find the right opportunity to grow and develop my skills. My current goal is to pursue a career in editing or writing where I will be able to apply the combined knowledge from my academic studies and teaching experience as well as the practical skills I have developed throughout many years as a professional. My ideal is to find a company or organization where I can invest my talent and abilities, learn and grow, and develop a long-term relationship. |
